Red face New user - Help with Link Problems - 06-05-2008, 04:04 PM

HELP!! I've posted my site - www.vgoptimist.org and some of my links work and some don't. I've placed them all in the same folder and "linked" them all with the same process.

I'm almost compute illiterate - Can anyone help me?

Thanks

I went to your site and I'm not sure which links you are talking about that don't work. Can you post which links aren't working and on what pages they are not working on? That helps a lot to help you out better.

Default Bad Links - 06-05-2008, 08:19 PM

Okay -

On Page 1 - Welcome the Programs Link comes up and says "Problem Loading Page"

All the links on Page 2 - Grants work great.

Page 3 - Events/News the Bingo Zone, Duck Derby and Calendar of Events links come up and say "Problem Loading Page"

Page 4 - Contact/Info the Join, Board Agenda, Meeting Agenda and Club Bylaws come up and say "Problem Loading Page"

When I did the links I did them all the same way, and all the files are in the same folder. So I'm stumped as to why some work and some don't.

I right clicked on each Icon, clicked on "link" - That opened the Link dialog box. From there I chose each link type as "File". Went down to the file name and browsed to my folder location and clicked on the pdf file I wanted. I checked "Open in new window". Then clicked ok to save. That's it.

When I build the site and preview it ALL of the links work. They don't work when I publish it to the internet.

Thanks - Amy

Most of those bad links are to a PDF File, you did this PDF File Link correctly, http://www.vgoptimist.org/newslettermay08.pdf. Looks like you need to upload your PDF Files, and link to them like you did with the News Letter

Default Bad Links - 06-05-2008, 08:55 PM

I'm sorry - but I think the problem is in that I have made changes to the web site and I "THOUGHT" I was saving it correctly - All the bad links and some other changes (like centering the pages) are not showing on the internet.

Can you tell me EXACTLY how to save the changes I'm making in order to publish them to the internet.

Again, Sorry - but I know next to nothing about this process.

Thanks

Step 1) make you changes
Step 2) Build (with CSS/HTML centered page) and Publish
Step 3) go to File, and save (just like you save any electronic doc)

BTW, you can save before u Publish..

First of all, your pdf files should be renamed so you don't have any spaces in the name, if you have to use an underscore rather than a space.

Second, you should delete your old files from your webserver before uploading a change, that way there is no problem with old files and new files fighting each other. Delete the old, upload the new.

Yup. I always make sure that I delete all the files in there to make sure that no new ones conflict with old. That is definitely sound advice for sure.

Default Problem Solved - 06-06-2008, 08:18 PM

THANKSSSSSSSS So much!

I went back and renamed all my pdf files as suggested (with no spaces)
then deleted the old files on my site and relinked to the renamed files.

Then, I Built as recommended by WebMonkey08 and saved.

Our site is up and running, all the links are good and all the pages are
centered.

Ya'll are GREAT - Again THANKSSSSSSSSSSSSS.
