Question Help Please - 05-25-2008, 10:48 PM

I need some help with this problem I cannot figure out. I’m not really good with writing html, but I have been learning ‘tricks’ here and there from you guys. I have been trying to figure out how to insert the code for my flash menu into my HTML with CSS pages so that I can center the page without having those blasted scroll bars like I do when I build my site with DHTM centered.

Right now, I have the menu posted, but it’s not centering on the page on browsers like IE, Firefox, Opera or Netscape. But oddly, it is viewing correctly on Opera. I just need help with centering it. Is there a code that I need to input before, after or what? HELP!!

Here is my original site built in DHTM (not centered because I don’t want the scroll bars)

http://jd-web-designs.com

And here’s my ‘test’ site to show you what I have right now with it built in HTML with CSS centered with the menu code inserted.

http://jd-web-designs.com/test/

You’ll see the menu is at the top of the screen, but not centered. If you can check out my coding and let me know what to insert, it would help me out a great deal for it, as well as any future sites I will create.

If I am not making sense with what it is I want, let me know and I will try to explain it better……… Hopefully. :-D

THANKS!!

first draw a simple box.
then go to its custom script.
insert the code.
the flash should be at the same place as the box.

It looks centered to me. Unless you mean the left and right ends of the menu bar which extend all the way to the left and right.

I just looked at your code, the problem is your menu script is "outside" the main page. Look at it in raw code and you will see that the menu script is in its own "body" tag BEFORE the page id code, it needs to be after the page id in order to be on the page.

Supa, you're my hero!

And not to sound ungrateful, it is still not centered. It's exactly where I want it to be on the page, but the actual menu, I mean is left. There should be a blank section like it shows on the right of the menu titles. As you will see on my original one, that's where it is all centered the way I want it to show. Does there need to be some kind of 'centered' code to put before the custom script?

David, I tried to play with the extra 'body' tag to see if it would work, but that's that only way it was showing up at all. I took Supa's advice and it worked, for the most part.

Thanks for giving me another good idea and route to travel. I may need it in the future for sure.

Even though it works, there shouldn't be 2 body tags, I can't enter you test site from some reason... but if what david said is right and you do have 2 body tags then it wrong.
and google as well as others will have problem with your site.

show us your code.
it will help for the centered thing as well..

Unfortunately, it's not letting me insert the code. Is there another way I can show you the code?

You have to save the code as a TEXT file and include it as an attachment.

LOL - I thought of that after I had turned off my PC for the night. But it looks like it is working correctly now. I guess it may be my PC because I looked at it from another one on a different server this morning and it's A-OK the way I wanted it.

Thanks!
