Default tutorial for CPT - 12-29-2006, 05:58 PM

Is there somewhere a tutorial on using Classic Phone Tools? Just down loaded it from the BVRP site and cannot get anything to work PERIOD. Sure would like some instruction manuals or a tutorial on it's use.

Assuming its version 6 in English that you've downloaded then no there isn't a proper manual (only the very brief pdf covering installation under the "downloads" section of the BVRP website). Many people have asked for a proper manual (including myself) but BVRP doesn't believe the cost of writing one would be justified. Perhaps if a few more people ask, they may reconsider. (Are you reading this Support A.S )

If you explain exactly what you've tried and what response or error message the software has given, that will help us. Also if you see the first sticky post for this forum about how to ask questions and provide those details, that will be of assistance (in particular what modem you're attempting to use CPT with). If you can at least start Classic PhoneTools 6, the online help obtainable by clicking the questionmark should offer some help.

Yes it is 6.04 in English version. I am using Window XP SP2 and the modem is a SoftK56 Data Fax Voice Speakerphone CARP modem. There has been no error messages yet because I have not been able to get a phone number into the fax program to send out a fax. I also cannot seem to get the phone answering program to "setup" so it will answer a call. Does the "Phone" button have to be highlighted to get the program to work or does the "voice mail" button need to be highlighted? Also how does one go about making their own outgoing message upon answer of a phone call?

UPDATE TO THIS PROBLEM: found that if the program self detects the modem installed it finds a PCI SoftV92 Speakerphone modem on COM port: TAPI modem..?? The modem that is in the computer is as listed before and it is suppose to be on COM port 3. Why the difference?

TAPI is Microsofts way of sharing the modem amongst different compliant applications. If you check the tick box for exclusive use (where the modem is displayed within CPT), this forces CPT to use the modem in old fashioned com port mode but then in order to use other applications with the modem such as internet dial-up, CPT would need to be shut down first.

You might want to try manually selecting another modem within CPT. I dont have CPT 6.05 installed these days so cant see what choices there are but see if there's a PCI Conexant HSF data/fax/voice speakerphone modem option or something similar to try. When BVRP staff come back after the holidays, they should know which internal driver is most suited to that fishy sounding modem (sorry I couldn't resist :wink The wrong internal modem selection (or problems with BVRPs associated internal drivers contained within CPT) can cause sections to not function correctly or even to not be available.
