NOT NO FILE CONVERSION

Reading the instructions, I gather that by clicking on an MP3 file, the software then converts to some relevant format; midi or some other, show instruments, etc. When I click on my MP3 files, I get nothing. I'm not an idiot, but what am I missing here?

What are you trying to do with the MP3 file , are you trying to play it or save it ,what is the error ?

I have a Sumsung 950 from Verizon. I'm trying to convert a mp3 file to a ringtone. I understand how to extract a sound bite from the file, but I'm not sure what format this phone uses -- I think midi, which is not a format choice when I go to save the sound bite. Also, it implies from the instructions that just clicking or selecting the file converts it to a usable format, shows the instruments at the bottom, etc. For me, nothing happens. I expected that the whole purpose of putting in your phone profile is so that the software knows what format is needed.

I also understand that Verizon doesn't make it easy to get the ringtone uploaded, thus having to use their site.

If you are trying to save MP3 file on your phone and the phone does not support MP3 then you won't see the file in RMS software and you won't be able to transfer it to your phone .

Verizon phones have the direct transfer methods disabled (Bluetooth, USB cable, and IRDA) as well as limitation to OTA (Over The Air) transfer known as walled garden*. Due to this the www.vzwpix.com will be needed to transfer media to phones for Verizon customers.

Let me simplify the question. How do I take an mp3 file and convert it to .midi (a format that my phone can use). That's really what this software is all about, right?

The software will only show the files type that your phone support , however you can use Generic phone driver , from RMS click options , select my phone and select the Generic driver . You can try to check if the MP3 files does show on the list , there is no option to save mp3 as Midi file in RMS software , you can save the MP3 as : wav , amr , adp , 3gp , mp4 ,aac , wma .
You can search on the Internet for Midi to MP3 Converter software .
