New message indicator when no new messages exist

My dell computer came with classic tools 5 preinstalled. I had some voice quality issues and the new message indicator is always on. I tried updating to classic 6, however still no change. Even with no new messages (voice or fax) the indicator remains on.

Sorry I forgot to mention I'm using XPsp2 on a Dell computer.

Also forgot to mention modem is Conexant D850 56K V.9x DFVc that came with the Dell.

I assume you mean the new light at the top is flashing, correct? Try Double clicking on it to see if that helps.

You assume correctly. When I double click, it takes me to the inbox, but there are no new messages. I even tried moving everything from the inbox into another folder with no change. Also, if it toggle sound notification on it also keeps telling me that there is a new message.

You might try clearing the reception logs, Go to Menus, Reception and then Reception log. You should be able to clear it from there. Other than that, uninstalling and reisntalling is the only thing I can suggest.
