Default Moving files to another drive - 11-11-2009, 03:59 PM

I'm back with another question.

I am building a site for my squeeze on my computer. When it is all done, I would like to be able to hand it over to him so he can manage it. All the paths start with H for me, which is the letter of the drive all the files are on. I know that even if I gave him all the files, he doesn't have an H, so the paths would be broken, and it would have to be rebuilt. I thought maybe he could get an external drive, name it H, and put the main file under it. Then the path would be the same.

Is there a better way?

Why is it that I think that you will be doing the managing/upkeep anyway?

Ha! Yes....well, maybe someday, but for the moment, we live in almost an hour apart. Affter I get it started, he will want to change images and stuff. He is a photographer.

On another note, my question has a dual purpose. I have been the lead singer for the band Johnny Rock It for almost ten years, and built our site with WE. I have decided to leave, and need to hand over the files to our drummer. If there is a good answer to my problem, I could kill two birds...well, you know.

Why does this question always come up?
And why is it so hard for many to understand?

Simply put ALL the files you used to make your site (pics, pdf's, etc etc) into a single folder on your harddrive. Also, save in this folder your WE .alb files.

Name that folder something about that particular project.

Reopen your project from that folder, WE will probably come up with an error saying it can't find some of your graphics, tell it where to look, it will find them, then resave your file. done

Copy all the files from that "folder" to a cd or flashdrive.

But of course, you realize the other person will have to have WE installed on their pc to do any maintenance or upkeep.

Well, let's discuss that, then.

It came up because I didn't know the answer, and I asked on this forum for some help. Isn't that what it's for? Forgive me for asking such a question.

And I understand it, now.

Sorry for being such an idiot.

ahh, that's just one of Dave's pet peeves.

But he is right. Move all the picture files etc to one spot. Save your documents and html in the same main folder also. IE My main folder/my pics ....and so on.

Put a copy of WE on the new puter. Copy all the aforementioned files over. Then open each album/document and point WE to the new folder and he should be good to go.

Did I call ANYONE an idiot?

All I said or implied was that this question has been brought up many
times and that many people just can understand the simple concept of
being "organized" with their work.

- You asked a question.

- I answered it. (which is more then you'll get from WE tech support, usually)

- You didn't even thank me.

You are welcome, but a word of advice, if you're gonna survive on this thing called "the internet"
and use any kind of public forum, you need a tougher skin!

Welcome to the forum. Peace.
