The phone dials and after a few seconds I get Transmission Timeout. this happen before and I was advised to set the location tab to Use Faxtools dialing properties. It is set to this but it has started happening again. I am using a DSL line but have a filter on all my phones. using a Dell computer running Windows XP, so what's going on.

Try this

Once Phone/Fax Tools is open press the F6 key on your keyboard. This should open the General Configuration/Setup window. Click on the Communication tab and click the Change Modem button. The Device Configuration Wizard should appear. Click Next, make sure the modem for your computer is highlighted. Press next, select "Do no automatically detect my driver..."

Highlight Standard Data/Fax on the left and Fax Class 1 14400 Data 33600 on the right and click Next, then Finish.

I also need help with faxtools

I got this on a lexmark x1250 all in one printer. It won't send fax. When I follow advice here it does not work. When i change modem to my computer modem it says the fax is disabled. What modem should i use?

Also, even though the fax is installed, when I click print in a windows based
app like ms word the drop down does not include the fax.?

I am working on a vista home premium computer where faxtools came with the printer but I also have the faxtools on an and XP home PC and have the same problem, the fax won't send

The faxtools version I have is 5.10

Thanks

Unfortunately this version of FaxTools is not supported on Windows Vista so we will be unable to get the software working on this computer. You should have no problems using the software though on your Windows XP machine. If you can please answer a few questions it will help us in resolving your issue.

What is the model of modem that you are using?

What type of phone service are you uisng? Is this a digital phone or an analog phone?

Windows XP SP 2

My phone line is analog. I connect to internet through a nwg2247 firewalled router.

My modem on the XP PC is Conexant 56K ACLink Modem, under that it says standard modem?
I am not sure which modem I should be using?

Now it says modem management disabled/no device connected/ Receive mode is fax

I am also getting a 'no dial tone' message. Does that mean it needs a dial up connection? I am on broadband.

There is also a 'line down on last attempt' message sometimes. What line does that refer to?

Thanks

In order to send and receive faxes you will need to have a 56k dial up modem connected to an analog phone line. A No Dial Tone error means that you either do not have your modem installed properly or that you have not connected the modem to an analog phone line.

For your issue with the Modem Management Disabled error I have included the fix from our FAQ's.

I am getting "Modem Manager is disabled" errors.

1. When you receive the "Modem Manager is disabled" message the first thing you should do is make sure that you are not connected to the internet and don't have any programs open that use the modem. This error will occur when PhoneTools is unable to communicate with the modem.
2. If you are not on the internet, the next step is to close all programs and then click on Start, Shut Down, and Shut Down the computer for a minute and start it up again.
3. At this point open PhoneTools back up and see if the program is able to talk to the modem or if you get the same error. If the modem manager is still disabled the next step is to remove the modem and reinstall it. To do this, from Windows, click Start, (Settings), Control Panel. Double-click Phone and Modem Options (Modems in 98/Me), highlight your modem and click the Remove button and click Close. Then close Control Panel and restart your computer. When your computer comes back into Windows, it should automatically install the modem.
