Default Disappearing spaces in text boxes - 11-02-2009, 10:46 PM

Just occasionally a space between text within a text block will be clearly there when you're editing but mysteriously disappear in the built code.

I used to have this problem occasionally in v5 and had hoped it had been fixed in v8. Seems not as I've just hit it again and I wondered if anyone else had experienced the same problem?

There doesn't seem any logic as to why/where it happens. The only way I've found to get rid of it is put an extra space in, which then shows up as one space.

TIA Midge.

Can you provide a link to show what you are talking about. It helps to see it visually.

Hi,

Not easily I'm afraid as the web site isn't published out on the net yet - sorry.

The example in this case is a simple block of text where a section of it "aged 12. My only" came out as "aged 12.My only".

i.e. the space in front of the M which is unquestionably there in the editor has been lost when it was published.

The only way to sort it out seems to be to deliberately put two spaces in the editor so it then comes out correctly with one space when published.

It is a weird problem and I only hit it occasionally.

Midge.

Have you checked to see if the problem exists in all browsers?

My second question would be "is this possibly formatted text pasted from another source?" There can be all sorts of issues with this.

I have had it happen, except when I add the extra space, then both of them show up. I never checked with different browsers. The only fix I found was to delete the text box and start over.

Thankfully it rarely happens.

I'm glad it's not just me - i thought I was going a bit mad! lol

I haven't checked other browsers - I'll try that next time I hit the issue.

I don't think it's pasted text, but again, I'll bear that in mind when I hit it again and see if I can work out what it is that triggers it.

Thanks.

Midge.

Well folks, I've finally had this happen to me again! fishinsecrets - you were right with your earlier posting, the word it occured after had been pasted from the web (my spelling is a bit iffy, and I remembered I'd pasted the word in from a search result). So deleted the word totally, and typed it back in myself and all was well.

So, can we have a paste special/unformated text please Avanquest. Oh and spell checker would be nice too!

Yep, the best thing to do is to first remove all formatting and then copy and paste it. Are you using rich text or plain text? That could also be a factor.

Always remove the formatting. I copy then paste to NOTEPAD, then recopy from notepad and paste to whatever. Notepad strips out any formatting the text may have had.
