Hi all... It's been a while since I posted when designing a website for my agent around a year ago. All sorted and has been up and running since then. HOWEVER I now find I just haven't the time to maintain as regularly as required it for my client, nor the expertise to re-build parts of it to make it a) more SEO friendly and b) easy enough for her to update as and when required without spending hours explaining the little foibles of WE pro 7. Not only that, my own site has had to take a back seat and I need to concentrate on updating that!

If you take a look, you'll see that essentially I've designed it to use Porta galleries in frames, which are uploaded separately to the WE site onto the server. This part I HAVE managed to explain to my client and she ought to be able to cope with updating these herself. However had a major problem transferring my files and getting her own WE programme to work with them today. I ended up deleting her WE .exe and then couldn't get it to re-install, etc etc. So what she needs is someone who knows what they are doing and can take the weight off my shoulders. Obviously for a monthly retainer fee I'd suggest...

Ideally it would help if you are UK based, but I guess these days email correspondance works just as easily. Of course I can let you have all the necessary existing files and images to work with too. Most important of all is that you have some sense or experience of graphic design as the 'look' of this site is the key thing.

HERE IS THE SITE: http://www.victoriagallery.co.uk

If anyone is interested, please PM me! This is fairly urgent for my sanity's sake!

If I won't get BURNED...

Let's hope the sizzle is only from your brain contemplating how you're going to be spending all the extra money you'll be making............. ;)

I think as long as one is clear about what you will do for what cost/what rate from the outset, there shouldn't be a problem! However I won't deny that this one could be challenging...! I stupidly DIDNT do what I've just said and am now having to work out what all the time and effort I've put into this is actually worth. Originally I agreed to set the thing up in exchange for a 2nd hand laptop (which actually cost me more than it was worth to fix and upgrade so it could cope with the job in the end!) but I didn't account for all the subsequent management and tweaking.

Actually if any of you designers out there can give me a clue as to what this kind of site should cost at normal commercial rates it would help me enormously before I present my final invoice! Don't mind if it's in dollars either!

Please note also re the above appeal for help, my client now says the person must be from our local area ie North-West England and able to visit her... A very long shot then!

Before I decided to go on my own with web easy I contacted people here in the US and it seemed to be that to create the website and make it so that I could update it would cost anywhere from $2,000 to $3,000. I think that price included SEO stuff too....But I can't be sure. Since I knew it would take 2 or 3 years before I would see any benefit, I decided to go on my own.

I don't know what it is worth to you but I figured I'd throw my 2 cents in.

MUM,
When the client runs out of options or is shocked that no one else will do it for free, double or triple your fee so you can actually make some money for the time involved.
