Here my issue.

My host doesnt support anything but perl/cgi - cannot change this.

I do not understand perl/cgi coding at all so im struggling with formmail. I have read and researched the net on how to set this formail up, ive tried, i cant get it to work at all. HELP

All i want is for site visitors to be able to send me details from the site to my inbox, basically i want the option to recieve emails direct from the site to me via email.

I have used the crimson template and i dont mind you lookin ;) at it (www.repairedpc.co.uk) , i bought WE7 hoping to have the site up within a couple of days hence the template but it has now been 2 weeks and i cant finish the site until i get this formmail issue to work.

Any help/advice/guides would be appreciated - thanks in advance.

I have read the sticky at the top, i still dont understand or get it.

Cheers

2 weeks? I didn't think computer guys gave up that easy. :D
I think I would also look around for another host because I wonder what else you won't be able to do.

I had some forms to email in the beginning and you are right. They are a pain and yes I probably spent 2 weeks getting one to work right. My host helped explain some of it but it was still a problem getting them right. It's certainly not wyswyg. The folks here that use Coffee Cup for these likely have the right idea.

You are going to find that you will not like a 14 page document down the road when you need to change just one little thing on one page. You will also want to look at a different ftp program. Digging through the threads will clairify these 2 things.

Formail does suck. If you can't drop your host for one that supports PHP why not look into getting a secondary host, perhaps a free host that supports PHP, throw some useless stuff on the secondary site to make it look
like you're using it but really just use it as a place to hold and process a PHP mail form.

What are you suggesting here davidrosso, ive had a look and looks very good, im always suspicious of free services for example reliability/stability tend to be the cost hence the saying "you get what you pay for"

Dont be offended by my comments ;) no offence meant at all, i just want a decent host where my site wont be offline half the time and for scripts to work well.

i would rather pay you on a regular basis knowing my site scripts will work and be online all the time.

Any further input davidrosso would be helpful and if anyone else has any input on the above, let me know.

the help ive received from this forum is very good and look forwardto returning the help if i can to you guys.

Cheers

I was suggesting you keep your current host (I'm assuming you're locked into some kind of contract) and join that free host to take advantage of the fact that they support PHP. In theory, you could design a contact form that uses a PHP process script and have that script file on the free host and simply link in the form on your site on your other host to simply use the PHP script on the free host. It should work.

Or, if you're ready to simply dump your host all together then click on the bestdamnwebhost link in my signature and check out the host on the top of that page... IX Web Hosting, thats who I use. Top notch.
