I added the shopping cart to my site but how do i take care of the fact some customers might have a coupon for a discount?
Is there a button i can use or is there a way when they go to pay to enter the discount
i am using paypal

Add a button that has 'Coupon Price', and make a notation that the order will be processed once the Coupon is electronically recieved

How about this. You have to give your coupon button a price, correct?
What if you can make the price a negative number (the amount of the discount) and instruct the customer to select both the product and the coupon button to get the deal. Would the net price work out on paypal's end?

You could also just refund the amount of the coupon.

thanks for the feedback i think i might take what webmonkey suggessted and tweak it a little. I am going to place a statement on my site that states if you have a coupon please send em the code and i will forward ordering /payment instructions
I think this will work

Sounds like a lot of extra (unnecessary) work to me.................... I know there is a way to set up a 'redemption' value for coupons and gift certificates. I can't remember right now, but I am certain there is one, because when you go to purchase something that option is available to enter in a code. I would contact paypal again and tell them there is a feature, but you just need help finding out how to integrate it.

Well ain't that a daisy? If it's no longer available, then why the heck do they still have it there to use? Sometimes I wonder if PayPal has a left hand that doesn't even know there's a right? LOL

That's just bogus. I guess they will just try to stick it to you any way they can these days.
