View Full Version : Show me the WYSIWYG! My pages are a mess!

I just started working with WE 7 last week but I think I have a decent working knowledge of the program. I can handle all the basic formatting, linking, etc- enough to create a decent looking site with pages that work.
It all looks great in design view but when I go to preview, all of the formatting and content are jumbled- virtually nothing is in the right place. The layers are mixed up and all the text and images move around.
What critical piece of understanding is absent here? How do I get this program to actually BE wysiwyg? Why can't I stick an image in a certain place and have it actually show up there? Arg arg arg!

Eh, the site isn't up presently. In frustration, I nuked my original design and am going back to fundamentals until I can make friends with this software.
I did refresh browser, clear cache, restart program, etc. Still, shapes and images continue to move and/or resize themselves in preview. Text links relocate themselves willy nilly. It's bloody irritating.

Everything you're claiming sounds abit odd, but I will say that the program has a much longer learning curve then one week.
Also, I would find some way to publish the pages online somewhere (ie. a free webhost or something) temporarily because things do not always look the same on your local pc as they do online!

What size monitor do you have, and is the page size set to fit it? I've had a similar problem but not found a solution yet.

I have a 22" monitor and I am viewing with IE.
I discovered something interesting though...when I preview as simple HTML, everything displays correctly. The formatting errors occur when I build as HTML with CSS. I understand that I really should have CSS and I want to build the site the correct way but I'm not sure how to get around this problem.
It should also be noted that the built-in sample web sites also display incorrectly. Some text blocks, shapes and images are shifted to the right or are resized.

If you have IE set to view with a larger than Normal Text size, that's why, I have struggled with this issue, and there is no way around it.

I thought of that too but unfortunately, the site looks exactly the same regardless of the text size I select in IE.
The fact that the sample web sites display incorrectly makes me wonder if there is some other setting causing the problem.
I appreciate any and all suggestions.

You should take a WE template, and don't do anything with it but build with CSS/HTML ,and preview it. If it is still screwed up, then it definetly is not you. You need to do a process of elimination. last Sunday, I had a weird problem that would not go away. But when I closed the program, and restarted my PC, everything was fine.

Yes, I did build a WE site from a template, making no modifications whatsoever. It is still, as you so eloquently put it, screwed up when previewed.
So, I guess I'll go download Coffee Cup and see if I have any better luck. Heh.
