I am a complete novice at this game. I have prepared a Family History WebSite in WebEasy6, with internal links to each page. I have uploaded all of this to my WebSite. It all shows on the Web. Now, I have uploaded a very large file created in Genopro but the hyperlink doesn't work. Is there a specific way to 'name' this file?? It is presently called htmlanderson.ALB. The ALB seems to come up automatically when I create the link. Can anyone tell me in words of few syllables what I am doing wrong? RosemaryJoan

is there a way to change the htmlanderson.ALB to htmlanderson.html or htmlanderson.htm ?
HTML and HTM are valid web file extentions.
also, you could do Google Search on the problem i.e.

.ALB is the file extension used by WE.; that is the extension used for a document file created with WE. What type of file is the file that you created and are trying to link to?

This file is called .gno when it is created in Genopro and that is what it is named when they send it up to my server. I don't think I can rename it. When I create the link in WebEasy, i.e. link to document I give it this name, but Web Easy automatically changes it to ALB every time. I am trying to link it to my index page created in WebEasy. First of all, you can rename any file on your server, but besides that you can tell WE to link to anything you want, you are doing something wrong.
If you file is for example "myfile.gno" and it resides on your server and your site is called yoursite.com then the link you want to assign in WE is http://www.yoursite.com/myfile.gno
You should be using the link menu and selecting INTERNET WEB PAGE and enter the exact and entire address as shown above.
But also, for the record, I have to say, if you are going to link to a file created with a specific program such as this genpro thing, you realize the link won't work unless the person clicking on it also has this program on their pc.

David - thanks for last night's reply. I have been checking and rechecking my files and didn't log in again. I will change the link to 'internet web page' as you suggest and see what happens. I take on board your comment about Genopro only being viewable in their programme but they do promise that it can be viewed. When it is up and running I will send you the address RosemaryJoan

Thanks for all the input. I have visited the Genopro forum and discovered that my Web Server needs to have lots of MIME Types to deliver the files (such as .gno,.ged,.emf,svgz etc. etc. file extensions) , so now it's back to the server to ask them if it's possible to make these available. Onwards and upwards. RosemaryJoan

Pretty much all servers will allow .ZIP files, you can simply create a zip file that contains your gno file, your visitor would have to download the zip file and extract the gno file but that would work. This is assuming you know how to use Winzip to make zip files.
