I really need help with this. I would really appreciate anything anyone can give to me.
I bought WE6 1 year ago and have used it and really enjoy it. After a year went by, I decided I wanted to instal it on my computer at work. So if I needed a break I could mess around with it. I bought my second copy from ebay and my first copy was a download from the company.
I made a backup of my website at home and brought it into work on a flash drive.
I then altered a page and attempted to upload it and I ran into these problems on my work (new) computer:
1. it is publishing my site as: http://www.mysite.gif (instead of .html)
2. it is publishing my multiple pages as: http://www.mysite.com/mypackagename001001.gif
http://www.mysite.com/mypackagename002001.gif
http://www.mysite.com/mypackagename003001.gif
On my home computer the multiple pages contain only 3 numbers and not 6 they look like this:
http://www.mysite.com/mypackagename001.com
So....How do I get the .gif to be a .html
and...How do I get the 002001 to be a 002
Thanks in advance for any and all help

I bought a new PC a few months ago, and transfered some of my WE stuff to the new PC. I ran into some bugs, program couldn't find JPG's etc. I would redo the backup..or hmmm, these are some of the weird quirks you find with WE. Sometimes, I have recreate a file, make manual fixes..Oh Fooey !

I too had same problem. What happened to me is the files are kept in "My Documents" - Unless your computers are named EXACTLY the same ( on one computer I used Tom and on the other I used Thomas for my name. When the documents are opened they look for files in "Documents and Settings> whatever name used" - and if name is different - cannot find them.
Solution is - I build everything in c: > programs > avanquest > put folders here. Aslo make folders there for your images. I can now copy a document from Desk PC to my laptop and open doc on either computer and work on it. Just remember to copy changes made on 1 computer to file on the other

Always a good idea to store your files and projects somewhere other than where the program wants you to! I have all of my data stored on a external usb drive. There was some mention in another thread about the program (WE) deleting files by itself for no reason from peoples projects, it seemed to have to do with where they were stored.

Ok,
Thanks for all the input. I will try it again with you guys' ideas. But I have a question. I want to save my package on a usb drive regardless of what computer I use. Right now when I go to save it, it is defaulted to saving to a certain spot. Is there a way to change the default to the usb drive and a folder within it?
Thanks

When I save my documents I go to file > save as > then I select my location. the next time that same document is open and I go to "save as" - it takes me back to the same location I saved at first time.
When I build a website package > when you go to build a website - at the top of the window is the package save location - click the folder icon on the far right and select the default save to location.

For your main computer in WE to change the default folder go to options/folders and pick the usb drive location. It won't work on other computers unless you just get lucky and it is assigned the same letter when you plug in the USB drive. You just have to browse for it the first time the old fashioned way.
