Having bought Avanquest's PDF Expert 4.0 Pro (sold in Germany as PDF Experte 4 Pro) in the Saturn store in Duesseldorf and installed it on my PC (Windows XP SP2, German), I found that my Word 2000 and Excel 2000 (both English programs) documents were freezing and could no longer be processed at all (got me worried for a moment that the files were corrupted, which they were not, see below).
As they could be opened and processed without freezing with OpenOffice however, the cause was soon found: the PDF Experte 4 Pro program had inserted a button on the Word/Excel toolbars, something that does not appear to be an option to avoid when installing the program.
Deinstalling the PDF Experte 4 Pro program solved that, the button disappearing, but having paid for the program and found it good, I want to use it, without having to switch from Word/Excel to OpenOffice equivalents that do not have exactly the same formats - having of course also paid for those Word/Excel programs in order to use rather than to just discard them on account of PDF Experte 4 Pro.
Incidentally, I already have a good program installed (PrimoPDF) to create PDF files, it was the PDF Editor part of PDF Experte 4 Pro that I want to use in order to edit PDFs, but that does not install separately and it is not possible to deinstall the PDF Creator function of PDF Experte 4 Pro without also deinstalling the PDF Editor.
So who has had the same experience? Who knows how to overcome my problem? Or who can suggest an alternative, reasonably priced program that can edit PDF files if this is a bug that just cannot be eliminated with PDF Experte 4 Pro?
