View Full Version : Help for a newbie user!!
Can anyone help, I am pulling my hair out here.
I designed a website using Webeasy 7 based around one of the templates..(Flash). It was a 6 page template, that I added pages to (38 total)
I have everything ready to publish, but during the publishing I get a message ......
The website Package is older than the website document.
It is strongly recommended to build the website from original website document before publishing this package to the internet.
Anybody shed light on what I have done wrong please?
I have sent an message to the Tech support, but that was yesterday morning, I am not sure how long they take to reply.
Thanks in advance
Karl

Step one: save your site as a document (.alb)
Step two: build your html package
***therefore your html package will be newer than your document
Step three: publish
Also make sure when you publish you are pointing to the most current copy of the html package.
Hope this helps and good luck!

I've had the same problem. Please bear with me as I do not know your experience level.
Basically the application is telling you that the 'document' version of your web site is older then the html package. The html package is what is 'built' when you click on 'build dynamic website'. The HTML files are the actual files which are loaded up onto your web server and are viewable over the net.
Essentially the software is warning you that some changes or updates which have been made to the document (.alb) have not been built (or rebuilt) into the html files. It determines this by comparing the 'date stamps' on the files.
It sounds like you are using the assistant. I didn't use the assistant, I used the HOME menu (located on the left of your screen) Then, after saving the document, took the build and publish steps independently by clicking on the icons there.
added in edit: it is entirely possible that if you are using the assistant something has been corrupted, as I have been learning, this is a buggy application, hence the good luck. :(
Thank you again for your prompt reply (You should work for Tech Support!!:p)
My level of experience is pretty low, but I am not a complete novice:D
I also used the icons on the home menu for the publishing, as this was how the help menu explained.
I will keep looking and trying different htings, it is just very frustrating, I hope I can get this sorted out soon as I have several people waiting for me to go live with this website.
Any ideas on how long it takes Tech support to answer questions?

I used to support techinical sat-coms in a 24/7 operations center. ;)
Lets see how fast tech support responds to my problem of a complete application crash! No workie at all!
As to your problem, bummer...I've always worked around it just fine. :(

So I got to thinking.......
I used the template ......Flash for the site,it is a 6 page template.
I then inserted pages using the insert command.......I used blank page as the option and these pages were given ascending numbers as there names, upto and including Page 38.............these pages were all saved with the save command...........I see them in the document folder so I know they were saved as documents.
Do you think that these blank pages are causing my problem somehow? I really cannot think why they would but that is the only thing I can think of

I'm not sure but it sounds to me like maybe you are trying to export or publish over an existing version of the same package? Maybe as simple as delecting the old html files wherever they are and then trying again. Whenever I make changes to my sites, the first thing I do is delete all the old files where they are then export and upload the new ones.

Ok I am going to try to walk you thru building your website.
If you have more than one website this may help you.
Once you have WebEasy open and you have selected your website go to build website.
This will bring up your “Build Dynamic Website” box.
On the very top of this box should be where your website folder is located.
I.e.
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Web Easy\Html
(This could be a little different with each person’s computer)
This is a default setting for WebEasy.
Go back into your WebEasy folder (the one located in your destination line).
Create a folder, named after your website, (Your Website Name).
Now go back to the “Build Dynamic Website” box.
Redirect it to your new folder.
I.e.
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Web Easy\Your Website Name
While we are in the “Build Dynamic Website” box click on Advanced.
Here you will change all the Preset information.
Author
Internet search engine words
Internet search engine description
Fill this out with your info.
Now go to FILE and click on save.
This is the point to test it.
Go to “Build” and select all pages.
Double check your website is still working correctly.
After you checked your website and it works good, then you should go to the file C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Web Easy\Your Website Name and make sure it has your website information in it.
If everything has checked out from this point go ahead and build your website to publish.
Go to “Build” Website.
Click the Publish Now box.
The Output box should be checked with “All Pages.”
Click the folder with the magnifying glass and make sure it’s still pointed in the right folder.
If everything is still a go click OK.
You will get a Windows Warning box saying “The folder: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Web Easy\Your Website Name already contains the package” Your Website Name.
Do you want to overwrite the existing package?
Click Ok.
Once it builds it you will get another box, “Publishing Your Web Site To The Internet.”
It was stated that you were using Ieasysite.com and if this is your only site select:
Use Avanquest’s preferred Web Hosting service (recommended).
You’ll get another Windows box stating:
The Currently edited original web site document has been modified. It is strongly recommended to save the original document and build the web site before publishing on the Internet.
Do you wish to continue?
Click Yes.
Now the iEasySite Wizard box will come up. Click the Update an existing web site. Because you already have your web site with iEasySite.
[Here is a step that may solve one of your problems] Click on options… (Located bottom left).
Choose the Standard button. This will drop down your transfer to 50K of transfer. I have mine right now on Larger (100K) but when I get over to Afghanistan I will have to lower it to perhaps 25K. Click OK.
Click Next.
Make sure your website name is in the Web Site drop down menu. Click next if everything is ok and your password is correct.
Click Next.
Choose a Web Easy site to update.
Make sure your packet name is in here. Check it and click next.
Updating your web site box should be next. You have two options here.
Upload your entire web site or Upload only changes to your web site.
Because you can’t get it to load at all yet select Upload Your Entire Web Site.
After this choose Upload only Changes to your Web Site. This will speed the process up a ton.
Now Click Next.
This will start the uploading procedures.
Once this is done it will let you know.
I am assuming this is were you usually get your error code but perhaps downsizing your upload from 100K to 50 may have helped.
Let me know if it uploaded this time.
I hope this helps,
Russell
OK
So last night I re-designed the whole thing, saved it as posted, built the thing and got ready to publish and it looks like I have it sorted out.
Now my newbie problem is the connection profile.
I have the remote access section done
Under the general Tab I have no idea what the initial remote folder is:confused:
I have the WWW section done:o
Under the Firewall tab how do I find out the host (from checking the help files I think it is a IP address that goes in there)
I suspect the username and password are those of my AV software (That is where my firewall comes from....Trend Micro
Further help will be very welcome, I am on the verge of pulling every remaining hair out of my head now

Karl,
The initial remote host folder is where your files are going to. More than likely it will be / . If you're unsure, get the info from your ISP.
For the firewall section, I always leave it at "none" which should be the default. Just make sure the firewalls on your computer are turned off before you do your upload.
If you don't know how to turn off windows firewall, just go under START, then choose CONTROL PANEL, and then choose SECURITY CENTER. You'll see the option to turn off the firewall.
Try not to pull your hair out. The uploads are the most painful of all, but once you get the hang of what everything does, it's very easy.
Thanks for all the replies, I managed to get the thing uploaded to my hosting server, via an 3rd party FTP Client but the files in the Index page appear corrupted.
That is the straw that broke this camels back!!
Despite emailing Tech Support on Sunday and getting no reply at all, my website is useless.
Biting the bullet now and going to buy different software today.
Recommend Webeasy 7 to anybody???
Not a chance, in fact if I could I would design a website letting everyone know what crappy service they offer....Now there's a thought!!:p
How did you upload it ?
what files did you upload with the ftp program ?
Did you export your site to a local folder first ?
did you run the site from that specific local folder and saw that it runs smoothly ?

Thats how I do it. I export the HTML, then us WS_FTP program to upload to my server. Then I make a zip backup copy of the html files, just in case something happens to the WE .alb document file.
I find it the best way to upload.
after i export the files and check it I zip it to a single file, upload it
and then unzip it. very quickly procedure. nothing can get wrong.
no file is left out, plus you can put that same zip in backup.

Quick update.........I finally managed to work out how to get this thing working, with a little help form a friend....No thanks to Tech support who have still yet to contact me!!!
I have a further question though, my existing website was created in Frontpage2003, and I would like to make a link to these files, which I know I will have to upload to my hosting account, (I just intend to change the name of the files and then link to them) I know I have to install the Frontpage extensions in my Godaddy hosting control center, does anybody envisage any problems.
I thought that maybe buying a second domain name ending in store would be the best way to do this, as I can just make a link to the store which will have its own website.........
Thanks
