Since the last time I built my site to publish on the internet, I can no longer open Web Easy Pro7. It flashes on my screen then closes. I recall the last time I used the Build feature, I checked two boxes. the first to view on the internet and I can't remember what the box below that was, but I checked it. Now I can't get in to make changes or even view my site. HELP PLEASE!!!

Hello. Run now,
is the box you checked but really, that's not your problem, sounds like its a software thing,
I have asked for help from V-com, I don't go there much but I did ask them about your problem while I was asking about my problem :)
so hopefully I will get a answer for both of us sometime in the next day .
The reference number for your question is '080204-000003'
I will let you know what ever I find out.
For both of us,
Kind Regards

I would reinstall the program. Sounds like something got corrupted. Not necessarily a WE issue by itself.

I'm having the same problem, started today.
I have taken the following steps to correct:
Restart PC
Shut Down PC
Clear Cache, temp files, history ect
Uninstall Program
Re-Install Program
Restart PC
Still Web Easy aborts on first click as described above.
Added in edit: in a quick browse of this forum back to November '07 I have found 4 seperate threads reporting this problem. The problem appears(?) to be independent of operating system (XP and Vista). None of the threads had a resolution.
This problem has me at a standstill on some projects.
Tech support, Please advise of fix ASAP.

I have been having this problem for a couple of weeks now. Still no reply from avanquest. I personaly do not think that they care at all... the only solution I have figured out is disable internet access then the program will work during a new install but once registered it shuts down on one click. if anyone finds any other sollution please let me know this is killing my business. I have had to revert to web easy pro 6 this one still works great. I have had to try learning another program (dreamWeaver) but changing all sites is tough..
Thanks

Thanks everyone for your interest and replies. Unfortunately it appears we aren't getting anywhere. What good is a program if you can't even open it !?!?!?! For crying out loud!!! Does anyone know how to contact Tech Support without paying additional money. You would think the cost of the program should cover getting it to AT LEAST OPEN!!! What a joke!:?::?::?:

I tried sending an e.mail to tech support last night, didn't work.
Got it to work this a.m. Incident:080205-000015
My suggestion is to those who are experiencing this problem to each open a seperate incident (if you have not done so already). Document it in this thread. Hopefully this will flag to tech support that this is not an isolated problem and it will receive some attention.
I intended to use this product to design sites for some local businesses. I find it very disturbing that folks have been dealing with a critical problem (unuseable software) for weeks with no response or resolution. Really makes me pause about going forward with Web Easy Pro for my web design solution.

Sunflower, you are one of the lucky ones to actually get an incident number. When I put in a tech support request, all I get is an auto generated response telling me they will contact me shortly and to call Avanquest support at (818) 591-9600 if I have any further questions. The phone number provided IS NOT EVEN AVANQUEST!!!!!!!!!! THE NUMBER IS FOR NOVA DEVELOPMENT AND NOVA DOES NOT SUPPORT THIS SOFTWARE. WTF!?!??!

This is the phone number for V-Com tech support: (925) 474-1701 ( 1-800-325-3058)
However the message stated very clearly that Web Easy Professional products are NOT supported by phone?
I got the incident number from customer support. I also submitted at technical support but like you I did not get a confirming e.mail or incident number.
The tech support emailing sucks, I emailed on Sunday night, and received an automated reply....."A representative will contact you within 24 hours"
Wednesday morning and still no reply..............
I would try the customer support number but I hate the thought of being told a lot of B/S.......So I quit!
I have given up and I am out today to get me a better program, I just wish I had read some of the nightmares BEFORE I bought this software..............Never again!!!!

Strange.... the same problem happening to several different people. There has to be something common to all of these installations that are now not working.
- Retail store or download a trialware version from the website?
- What operating system are you using?
- What browser?
- What virus software? Have you run a virus scan?
- Internet provider...Timewarner, AOL, Comcast, etc etc.
I know I'm fishing here but just looking for a common denominator.
Also, just my opnion, but if it were happening to me, and tech support was ignoring my request for help I think I'd be contacting the BBB.

Ya, filled those questions out on the tech support form, for which I have yet to recieve a response.
Dell Inspirion Desk Top, new - only had the PC for three months
Vista Home (there are other threads indicating the problem has occured on XP machines)
Web Easy Professional 7.lnk on properties, on CD 7.0
Purchased software at Office Depot, full version in sealed box, loaded with CD
IE7 browser
Comcast
All other apps I own are working fine. From reading the thread about the serial numbers and other problems, it is apparent to me this software is NOT robust.
The most important common denominator appears to be the lack of tech support for this product.
I've never filed complaints or bad reviews on a product, I feel very motivated to do so in this case. I will be posting reviews on Amazon and the likes. I will also be seeking a full refund of the purchase price. The BBB will be contacted if I cannot get a refund.
btw: for those looking for a similar replacement check out Coffee Cup Web Design Software. They have a software VP AND techs posting regularly on their forum, they also have live chat support. I'll by trying a trial version of their software today.

Although WebEasyPro7 is not supported via telephone, I was able to get some advice from an individual I reached by calling 925.474.1701. This is what he had me do:
(1) Run the computer in Safe Mode. To do this, he had me shut down and restart. Immediately upon restarting I tapped the F8 button continuously until I was given the option to run in Safe Mode. Once the computer was in Safe Mode, I was able to open the WebEasy software. What this told us is that there is nothing wrong with the WebEasy software itself, but rather another software application that was running in the background is conflicting with WebEasy software and preventing it from opening. To test what program that could be, he had me do this:
(2) Go to Start: Run: and type "msconfig". Go to the Start Up tab and disable all programs. Then I would enable each program one by one (you have to restart each time then try to open Web Easy after restart) to determine which one is conflicting. After enabling each one, restarting, and opening WebEasy, I could not identify which software is conflicting but I can now open WebEasy and use it again!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am not entirely comfortable that it is "fixed", but maybe this "fix" will work for you as well.
Good luck! Please let me know your results.

We have experienced the same problem that everyone else has, but with a slightly different twist. After uninstalling... reinstalling... etc I grabbed an unopened copy of WEP7 that we had purchased as a backup, and it installed and ran fine. I have no explanation why this happened, as no other software was changed during this time frame.
Having provided Avanquest's tech support with a detailed explanation of what we were experiencing, we did recieve an automated acknowledgement, but never an answer to our problem. More than 2 weeks has passed.
It is my company's opinion that Avanquest is not a reputable company. Two other programs we purchased from them, System Suite 7 and a driver update program, are GARBAGE and caused more problems than they solved.
Avanquest's failure to repond to tech support requests, and their failure to provide a patch or update to solve this problem, is evidence of their dishonesty.
As such, our company is filing a grievance with the local office of the N.Y. State Attorney General's office, which investigates EVERY report of fraud and demands a written response from the named company. (BBB's are fine, but seldom carry the weight of a letter from an A.G.) There is no cost (at least in NY) to file a complaint.
It's sad, because Web Easy has the potential to be the best sub $100 web creation package in the marketplace. Coffee Cup is okay, but is serious lacking in certain e-commerce features. The only alternative we have found is to invest the $400 for Dreamweaver and prepare for the EXTREME learning curve required to use it.

Running in safe mode did not correct my problem.
I called tech support and the V-Com tech there was kind enough to help me out. He was the same tech Kelly spoke with and was very helpful and patient.
He advised the steps Kelly listed are effective for those running Windows XP.
I'm running Vista Home. The resolution to the close on click problem was as follows:
For those running Vista-
Right Click on the WebEasy short cut icon
Select the Compatibility Tab
Click on the Compatability Mode check box
From the drop down menu select: Windows XP (service pack 2)
At the bottom Priviledge Level
Click on the Run as Administrator Check box
Click on Apply
This corrected the close on click problem.
After correcting that problem I started experiencing the Illegal copy/serial number problem.
The technician tried several fixes for that problem to no avail. He will do further research and contact me tomorrow. In the meantime I must enter the serial number everytime to use the software.
I will update if we get a resolution to the serial number problem.
I agree with RonHills regarding what a shame this is. Prior to encountering these problems I was having so much fun with this product. It fits a perfect nitch for someone who is computer savvy with a little bit of coding ability. Dreamweaver is daunting for those who just want to crank out some nice smaller sites.

Got to agree with Ron. While mine only has the illegal serial number issue it hasn't locked up. I am just amazed that it hit so many of us at the same time. Makes one think a windows update lurks as a culprit.
Dreamweaver is a real mountain to climb. I could probably work with it now but when I first got started it was an impossibility. WE saved my butt in that respect and I don't regret it. I tried another avanquest program. It lasted an hour before getting uninstalled. While I continue to look at other web site programs I haven't found one yet that matches WE 1 to 1 for the features it offers at this level so I will continue to use it and hope some new programmers get hired.....and some user type help file writers.
Vcom bought WE from the aussie makers, Ixla, Avanquest bought Vcom. Maybe someone should hire the aussies to straighten it out.
It has been said before by me and others that the FTP side of the program is a stinker and it is. It seems to me that the majority of the unhappiness starts with the ftp and ends with less than stellar web hosts on the other end. I and others have gone to an outside ftp programs. If you have a good web host you will never have this issue again by using an outside ftp program.
I thoroughly endorse my web host for many reasons and the ftp program I use has never whimpered, not once.

A lot of the other issues seem to be related to:
1: Users trying to do things that are beyond the scope of the program or is so dismally documented as to lead the user to make a mess of it.
2: WEs weak help files which leave us scratching our heads more often than not with the thought "what the heck does that mean?"
3: Users assuming that it all comes together in the first hour. Not going to happen. Like any other program there is much to be learned while at the same time putting up with kinks in the program. Heck, I think I spent a month creating, learning, reading, re-creating 2 pages before I made my first upload. Takes time.
I am grateful for this forum and the google one that preceeded it to help fill in the blanks. I have learned a lot from the more html orientated members. Not that I will ever use any of the ideas but it does help to get a grip on new and old things. I have seen a lot of neat things on other users web sites that get filed away in the future idea bin.
So, things could be worse. Oh yeah, they are. We have a recession and and election to contend with.
Good luck to us all.

I checked out the features on your webhost link, you can
get a much sweeter deal on the host I'm using. Click on their
banner at the bottom of my page and compare the features and
cost of their "Expert Plan" which is the one I have.

Looks like they have all the bells and whistles and a similar philosophy. I didn't run across these folks when I did my initial search a few years ago. I bookmarked it in case a change is necessary. Thanks
For the moment I can't complain. VE has always been available and helpful, especially in the beginning when everything was a mystery. They put up with my stupid rookie stuff without a whimper and guided me through some rather strange requests. Putting up with me and delivering on their end is worth something. :D
Making a change to save a couple of bucks sometimes cost more in the long run. Kind of like jumping around between similar software instead of mastering one. I am settled in and have a good relationship with VE. Until they do something really stupid or make a big jump in costs I am better served to stay put I think.

Hi Kelly,
My PC does the same thing. It won't open WebEasy if there were already other things open, whether it be an internet browser or software like Word, etc...anything. I just close eveything down, restart my computer, and then open WebEasy first..then, that seems to work for me. Kinda pain in the rear...I know.
