View Full Version : Transparency problem with buttons

As a newbie with this product (and web development in general), I really like this product and am almost done with a site based on the template Business/Dynamic (Desert Blue), but am having a problem modifying the navigation buttons. I need to add one and change the name of another, but am having real problems with transparency issues.

What this template does is mate a pair of buttons, one for on and one for off, using words with transparent backgrounds, and put them over a gray bar that has a gradient from dark gray to light gray. If I move an existing pair anywhere, their background stays transparent. If I copy them to try to modify them, the resultant copy is no longer transparent. I have tried mating a pair of transparent text images, but this produces a solid white background in the preview and final site, even though in the work screen the pair seems transparent.

The template button files appear to be images (I'm thinking composites) - an example of one pair is in Clipart/Buttons/Text2/bus20_comp_on.gif and bus20_comp_off.gif. What I would really like to do is use transparent text pairs, though, so I can put them over this gray bar with the gradient and still see the gradient. I hope I am missing something basic and this is easy to do, but I have tried a lot and haven't been successful and hope that someone can provide instruction on how to do this. Thanks for any help.

...although it was not in the product. Thought I tried this already, but I guess not. I wound up doing it in Photoshop - opened enough of the transparent gifs to find all the letters I needed, and cut and pasted them individually into a new transparent layer. The resultant new gifs stayed transparent, even when I overlaid the on/off pair in WE7, and I'm off to the races again. What a pain! It's a good thing I don't need a lot of these!
