Hello Groupies.

I have never tried and, of course, do not know how to set up a guestbook. Does anyone here know the steps to set one up? I can do forms but how do you get the entries to automatically show up? Do you have to have an sql database or some such thing?

Just use one of the free ones such as Ultraguest

http://www.ultraguest.com/

is as good as any, they host it , all you have to do is add the script with 'insert dynamic link' you can view & edit entries etc, its good !

If you don't want to mess with ad banners, or the other sites, you can just paste this in. It makes a good guestbook.

<form action="mailto:your email" <method="post">
<table>
<tr><td><body style="font-family: arial;"><size="+1"><color="000000">TYPE YOUR GREETING IN HERE FOR EX: PLEASE SIGN MY GUESTBOOK</td></tr>
<tr><td>Name: <input type="text" name="name" size="25" maxlength="30"/></td></tr>
<tr><td><textarea name="message" rows="10" cols="45"></textarea></td></tr>
<tr><td><input type="submit"/><input type="reset"/></td></tr>
</table>

</form>

You can change the font size and color if you want.

1. From the insert menu, just insert a graphic box or any other placeholder image where you want the guestbook to be on your site.

2. Go to "tools" > "Custom script assistant" and paste in the code.

It should work fine. Hope it helps.

<form action="mailto:your email" <method="post">

That is a great idea to add a form but please note this will use the site visitors email program to generate and send the email. While this works in many cases some users do not have a default email program setup or there default is not a working email program. When you find a source, consider using one that gathers the info and forwards it to you, rather than using the client email account.

Thanks for the code. Can you tell me where the guestbook appears once the code is pasted in? Can you move it?

Excellent advice from the support in the above message! When I've visited numerous sites, the default mail is always outlook. So, it's just a matter of what you really want to do.

If you want to move your guestbook around to a specific location on your page, just move the box or picture that you insert the code into. The graphic serves as your placeholder. For example, on your page, you might insert a black box. You can just grab it like any other graphic image and move it where you want.
Just open up the custom script assistant, paste in the code, and that's it.

Thanks to everyone who has replied here.

Great info everyone can use.

I have one of the free guestbooks - and have had it for years at EileensEshop. I wanted to build my own as I hate that banner across the top - that flashy, jumpy thing drives me nuts! LOL.

Thanks again!

I'm a frustrated Newbie and somehow on my Page Two, I ended up with a form for guests to submit their names/comments. For the life if me, I can't figure out out to get rid of it.. When I build, it's imposed over the top of my page two But I can't find it on page two to delete it. Can anyone help kill this thing?

If you are only on page two delete the page and start that page again. Did you already publish this? Or are you just playing around trying to figure out what you want your site to do at this point? If you did publish this what is the url?

Is there a way to have the entries sent directly to another page (posted) instead of sending it through e-mail. If they are e-mailed you then need to update the website everytime someone would send the information. I used the code that was provided and previewed the pages that i set up, however the comments that were put into the box were not forwarded to the email as well. I would like to make this a little easier. Any suggestions.

Hey Edward lucas - check out your object layers/orders, maybe the form is actually behind other stuff on that page. Try moving visible object/image to back or backward until the form is visible, select and delete it. Did you ever have a form on the page? That might help unless this is some sort of freak occurance.
