View Full Version : Editing background makes them unusable?

Hello - I would like to edit a background to change the color slightly. But when I do so using PaintShop Pro and save it as a .jpg (which it is to begin with), WebEasy 7 sees the file as something completely different -- either the color is something completely different or, as just happened, the background somehow became filled with a photograph that was also in the WebEasy folder.

I discovered that, if I simply drag the new jpg onto the web page, it works fine -- this problem only happens when I try to replace the background image with the new image. I don't want to simply drag the new image onto the website, though, because I don't want to have the website have to load both the background image and the new image.

Does anybody know what is going on here? I can send screen caps if necessary. It is truly bizarre.

Thanks, Mitch

I would try just clearing out the preview folder as well as the webcache. If the background image is the same file name, then this may be seen as the same file and the browser cache would use an old file, etc. Otherwise, you can just use a solid color, insert and image and right click it and choose 'send to back' to make it look like a background, but actually be an image which is part of the layers of the site.

good luck

Thanks for the response and suggestion. But I saved the modified background image with a different file name. And I'm trying to get away from layers -- I had the background image modified by an overlaid layer, but it increased d/l time and the background appeared first, then changed as the overlay arrived. I hoped to modify the background image itself so that the overlay was not necessary at all. (And I did that just fine, but it freaked WebEasy out.) What's really puzzling is when the background becomes corrupted so that it instead displays a repeated tiled image of a photograph that is also in the same directory (and that has a completely different filename). I have no clue how that's happening -- it's one thing to say that editing the background makes it unreadable to WebEasy, but it's another to say that that's going to happen...

I would still consider clearing every file out of the preview folder and clearing the browser cache. Usually these issues off 'unexplained behavior' are artifacts from an earlier preview. Clearing all those files mentioned is the best place to start.
