I really hope someone can help me ASAP!!!

*Fax Tool that came with Lexmark X1150 multifunction centre
*Windows XP Home OS
*Lucent Win Modem
*I have been using it for a couple of years & it's been fine. On occasion I have re-installed it (due to reformat pc or whatever) and have had to fiddle with the program to get it to receive faxes
*Just had a new PC built - and haven't been able to receive faxes since
*Phone line connected correctly / correct line
*It shows 'incoming call' for a second then screen goes back to 'ready' without receiving the fax. On the sender's end, it keeps ringing till it rings out.
*Sending faxes is fine, works without a hitch

I can't understand why it won't receive, I assume it has something to do with new PC - but essentially it's the same as the last one, OS, programs ETC are all the same.

My email is sarah@gxm.com.au I would seriously appreciate ANY suggestions or help, as this is a business fax and it's a nightmare atm without it :(

Thankyou!!!

Sorry - thought I should mention also that the dial up modem is for exclusive use (and assigned as such) for faxtool.
I have adsl obviously on a different line also.

Thanks,

Sarah

We need to determine if your modem is getting reing events:

1. From Windows, click Start, Run, then type in hypertrm and click OK.

2. A Connection Description screen should pop up asking for a name for the connection. Type in Test, then click OK.

3. A screen should appear asking for a phone number. Click the Cancel button.

4. You should be at a blank HyperTerminal screen, with a blinking cursor. Type in ATE1 (may not show up as you type it) and hit enter. It should respond with OK.*

5. Then call into the phone line that your computer is plugged into and let it ring four times. Does it show:

RING

RING

RING

RING

6. If it isn't showing rings here, the modem is not getting ring events and may need to be reinstalled or the line needs to be checked.

7. If it is showing in here, but isn't in Faxtools , try reinstalling Faxtools.

Thanks SO much for your reply :)

It's actually coming up with a TAPI error -

WINDOWS HAS REPORTED A TAPI ERROR CHECK YOUR PHONE & MODEM OPTIONS TO MAKE SURE A MODEM IS INSTALLED (or something)

I've uninstalled & reinstalled the modem, & its strange as it sends OK & does ring before dropping out.

HELP :(

This may be of help, i had this problem of not recieving faxes,go to menu, then configurations, then communications and then tick the exclusive use box of the modem settings, hey presto sorted.i dont think this would be anygood if you are on 56k dial up for your internet as this uses the modem as well..i reinstalled faxtool several times but the default is for the box to be unticked.if you are on broadband and have dial up software installed for emergencys this could be effecting the fax from detecting the incoming ringing.
