My Classic Phone Tools version 4.16 was working fine until I switched from a cable internet connection to a DSL modem (2Wire 2700HG-B). Now I get the following error on one computer:

"Modem manager is disabled
No device connected
Receive modem is fax"

On the second computer I get the following error message:

"No device connected
Receive mode is fax"

I have tried working off line, although being on line never made a difference when I was on cable. I shut down and restarted the computer. I uninstalled the modem (BCM V.92 56K), shut down and restarted. The modem reinstalled itself, but the same error is still there. Please help!

Try this:

1. With all programs closed go to Start
2. Go to Control Panel
3. Go to Phone and Modem options (it might be under Printers and Other Hardware)
4. Go to the modem tab
5. Remove all modems listed there
6. Close everything and restart your computer (when windows comes back up it should reinstall the modem)
7. Once the modem is reinstalled Open Classic Phonetools
8. Go to configure in the bottom left
9. Go to General Setup or General Configuration
10. Go to the Communication Tab
11. Click on Change modem
12. Go through to Configuration wizard to reidentify the modem.

I followed your instructions and was able to get phone tools working.

Thanks!
