LEXMARK X73 - FAX FUNCTION WILL NOT WORK

Hello: I have had this Lexmark X73 for 5 years with no problem. Our computer crashed and we lost everything. I had to reinstall our Lexmark X73 printer. Every function works but when we fax, it scans the document then makes a copy of it. It does not prompt to fax it? What can I do to fix this???? We used the fax all the time before. Yes we do have modem software installed. I have a Dell Dimension 4300, with Windows XP. I appreciate any advice.

Is the faxtools installed?

I think so, I downloaded 2 installation cds that came with printer.

Go to start, all programs and see if faxtools is listed. If its not listed the program is not installed.

The Lexmark printer is listed in programs & phone tools. There is no fax tools in there. What do I need to do? Greatly appreciate your help.

1. Put in the CD that came with the Dell or Lexmark printer.
2. Close all windows that open
3. Go to Start, My Computer
4. Right click 1 time on the CD-Rom Drive (typically the D: Drive)
5. Left click on Explore
6. On the right side you should have a folder called FAX, double click on
FAX
7. Click on the ENGLISH folder
8. Click on the Setup (Install Shield file) file
9. Fill in the information requested while clicking Next to advance through the installation
10. Once the installation is completed close all windows and restart your
computer.
11. Once the computer comes back up go to Start, All Programs, and FaxTools
12. You should now be able to use the FaxTools Software

If it comes up with a Device Configuration Wizard:

1. Click Next
2. Highlight your modem from the list and click Next
3. Leave the box 'Do not automatically detect the driver. Select from a
list.' unchecked
4. Click on Next
5. It should detect the modem automatically and give you a next button,
click Next
6. Click on Finish

If it does not detect the modem automatically select it from the list
provided.
