Mp3 Ringtones won't play as ring tones on my samsung t509

I just purchased ringtone media studio 1.04.
I have a Samsung T509 that supports mp3 ringtones.
I use bluetooth to connect to my computer .
My os is windows xp

When I create a ringtone and send it to my phone it won't play as a ringtone. my phone will play it from "my sounds" but not as a ring tone.
I am able to download mp3 ringtones from t-mobile and use them as ringtones.
