View Full Version : Trying to send fax: keep getting message Called number busy

Hi,
I am using the 5.03 version of Lexmark Fax tools that came with my Lexmark X74-X75 All-In-One. I have a Lucient Win Modem, and it says it is attached to COM4, whatever THAT means??? I am using Windows XP
When I try to send a fax, I open my Lexmark All-In-One and place the item I am wanting to fax onto the glass, and then under Creative Tasks, I click on Fax using your computer's modem. After following ALL the steps it calls for, it proceeds to send the fax, but then I get a message that the Called number is busy.
I have called the person I am trying to send the fax to, and they have told me that their fax machine is turned on and not being used, so they should be able to get my fax.
Can you tell me WHY it is not going through? Is there something that I am not doing right?
I sent my sister a fax last night to see if she would get it, so I would KNOW it was working, but she just lives on the other side of me. The fax I am trying to send now is to a long distance number, and I DO have the correct fax number for it.
My email is wishywashy@blomand.net
Thanks for your help

Are you putting the 1 before the number for long distance? Is Faxtools showing the 1 when it dials the number? Do you have long distance on you phone line?

Thank you so much!! What a "simple" thing, but when it is needed and isn't there, it is bound NOT to work. Of course, I DID forget to add the "1" before the number. Yes, I do have long distance on my phone line. Thank you, and tomorrow I will include the 1 and try again, as this is a business I am trying to send a fax to and there is no one in the office at this hour.

Thanks for your help!
