I have Windows XP, on a Dell 2300 bought in 2002. It came with a BCM V.92 56K modem and Classic Phone Tools version 4.16.

I have just set up a DSL line to my phone line and computer. I also have a separate connection, through same line, but not run through the DSL, connected to my computer through the phone connection for fax purposes.

I also need information on how to configure this program to ignore my regular phone ringing, and pick up only on the distinctive ring given me by the phone company for my fax. That ring is two short rings with pause then two short rings. Right now the fax picks up on all rings, no matter how I've tried to set up the Classic Phone Tools distinctive ring pattern. I've tried all three settings in that setup but keep having the same result. Can you help me?

I am still looking for the answer that was "sent" to me. I'd like to know where it was sent so I could find it. It's not in my email, nor in my message space at this Forum. I'm out of guesses. Any clues here?

Makes no sense to me to have your modem pickup on both lines, interupting calls trying to go to your voice mail. I have to have Phone tools pickup on the distinctive ring after 6 rings so my voice mail can catch the missed regular phone calls. The phone company voice mail does not pickup on the distinctive ring tone.

Windows XP Home Edition ver 2002 SP2
4. Details of the issue including any error messages, e.g, "When I try to install it keeps stating 'Please insert disk 1'."
I have 2 numbers coming in on same line, 1 is a regular ring (single ring) the other is distinctive ring (2 rings)
5. Scenarios under which the issue occurs, e.g., "I can normally send faxes, but cannot to the 310 area code."
Phone tools answers both lines no matter how you configure it because the 1st choise under distinctive ring is a default for the regular (single ring) phone. Can it be setup to answer ONLY the distinctive ring line (2 rings)?? this is why we paid extra for distinctive ring! How to change the default answer code??

I have Classic Phone Tools V4.16 Multimedia Software which was installed by Dell when I purchased my Dimension from them. I have a BCM V92 56K Modem manufactured by Broadcom Corporation.I am using Windows XP SP2 Home Edition version 2002. I have 2 phone numbers coming in on the same line. One phone number is a regular single ring and the second is a distinctive ring of 2 short rings. Phone Tools answers both lines regardless of the way I configure it because the 1st choice is set for a default of a regular ring. i desire to set this up so that the fax will answer only the distinctive ring of 2 short rings. My email address is koalatconst@charter.net

followed your email instructions to a tee (nearly). I had to make my extraction destination c:\program files\classic phone tools versus your suggested c:\program files\faxtools. i could not find the suggested destination. i'm still having the issue of my fax picking up all rings. i have also tried all combinations of the ring settings for ring 1 and ring 2, but have had no success. any other suggestions and/or possible solutions?

No, Basically the cadence is not coming through consistantly the same so the program can not identify it as one we have a setting for and answers it as a normal ring.
