Can't create a ringtone..."save as" doesn't appear

Using Motorola Phone Tools 4.0 and a 3 month old Cingular issued Motorola V557. As instructed by the Melody Studio tutorial, I can crop bits of mp3's (15 - 20 sec). But when I click the file tab, "save selection as" is not highlighted. Clicking the green arrow to "save to phone" only meets with a message about codecs not recognized and/or supported. Have an up to date Dell computer and am using the latest Windows Media 10.

What's wrong....What am I doing wrong? :(
