Classic Phone Tools
Multimedia Software Version 4.18
Received with Dell Dimension
Windows XP
I have just set up Vonage. When I try to send a fax, it attempts to dial but never reaches the fax number. I am wondering if there is a slight delay in getting a dial tone and that is causing the problem.
I receive faxes through efax so do not receive faxes through Classic Phone Tools.

You will need to contact Vonage and make sure that faxing is something you can do on their network. Some of the VOIP serves do not support faxing at all and with others you have to have it as a service on your service plan.

Yes, faxing is definitely possible through Vonage. People routinely fax without a special service. Phone Tools is waiting for a dial tone so that's OK but I am wondering if it is dialing too fast for Vonage. Is there a way to slow the dialing down -- or any other ideas. I have tried putting commas before the number to create a pause but that hasn't helped.

That's the only way to create a pause is to put in commas.
Honestly I am not understanding what you mean. Are you hearing a dialtone from the computer before it starts dialing, or are you hearing a dialtone after the porgram has started dialing? Do you have a long pause before you get a dialtone on your regular phone?

Yes, I get a dial tone before before it starts dialing. It dials, then I hear periodic tones I assume to be the program identifying itself as a fax, but the fax number never answers. When I dial the number from a handset the number answers.
There is a slight delay getting the dial tone but now I don't think that is the problem-- I can hear it waiting for a dial tone before it dials.
I tried *99 and placing commas in the number to slow down dialing but neither helps.
The program works perfectly on my regular Bell South line, but I am converting and won't have that line much longer.

From what you just described your computer and the program are functioning correctly. Its an issue with Vonage.
Well -- it's working now but I don't know why! I was initially assigned a "virtual number" while my old number was being ported. Also, I changed some wiring connections so I can use my house phone wiring for my voip.
I just tried faxing again and voila -- it works.
Thanks for your feedback
