Voice messages are garbled

I installed Classic Phone Tools 6 (6.03) on my computer. The fax works perfectly. When a message is left on the answering machine, it takes at least a minute or more for the phone to disconnect, but the voice message that is left is garbled and unintelligible. I updated the modem last evening and that still didn't help. Is there something else I need to do?

I have:

Intel 537EP V9x DFV PCI Modem
Windows XP SP2

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
