I've got a Dimension 4600 running Win XP Pro and an Intel 537EP chipset modem. My PhoneTools thinks it's a 3Com Modem and won't send faxes. I did upgrade from XP to XP Pro. Will the same patch help me?
Thanks,

I don't really remember the CD comes with a Winphone version abd Phonetools, we only use Dell computers so I'm almost sure it was bundled with them, we use the winphone 2.12, spanish version but the english version is called Phone tools and I think is version 2.17 or 2.19. I'll have to reinstall it to check.
I received Phone Tools 2.17 with my Dell 8200 Desktop. Please send me any available update to mamcarthur@yahoo.com.

I would like know of a modem that is compatible (the BEST of course) with PhoneTools eXPert and also all the other voice software I use. I had a Lucent telephony modem and never had a problem until I upgraded from 8100 Dell (Window 2000) to (8300 Windowsxp) The internal hardware has all been downgraded to a cheaper off brands including the modem. They've changed the modem out twice as they didn't know the difference between voice & fax capabilities and one without it.
One exchange was nice however it wasn't stamped for approved to work with Microsoft and it didn't.
Since this seems to be a huge problem I though I could get the experts advice to replace this modem.
Thanks,
Dolores

I would like know of a modem that is compatible (the BEST of course) with PhoneTools eXPert and also all the other voice software I use.On the product page here: http://www.bvrp.com/eng/products/PhoneToolseXPert/ there's a link on the right hand side of the page near the top called "compatible modems". Which one you choose depends to an extent on your location (not all modems are available worldwide). I've seen Multitech mentioned here as a brand. Personally I've used a couple of Pace (old UK brand) external modems and a GVC SF-1156HV+/R21 Full hardware Rockwell ACF II internal ISA with Classic PhoneTools. If you want the best speakerphone/voice capability, I'd suggest that you get a full hardware (controller based and not controller-less) modem. These cost a little more than the others but tend to be more reliable and produce better audio quality. The proverbial cats pyjamas of modems would be an external serial port "Message Saving" type modem which will work in independant mode, even while the PC is off eg the Multitech Message Saver and USR Message Modem range spring to mind but there are probably others depending where you are. Do you have a spare serial port on your machine (lots of new ones these days are serial port-less)? Is there anything on that list that takes your fancy?

Multitech modems we tend to work pretty well with. US Robotics modems are OK as well. If you are talking about specific Modems Dell ships the Conexant HSF V.92 RTAD or Speakerphone modem seems to be pretty good.

If your new dell did not come with the Phonetools then the update will not work on it either. You will need to purchase the Classic Phonetools 6 to get a version that will work on this computer. You can use promotion code tech97 to get a 15% discount off of that or on any software purchase from our website.

Also there is the number following the version number on the help screen that also has these numbers and information - 020812amigo.04. I hope the Up date is small enough to download since I only have dial up.

The problem I am having is that the software works fine, although the headset I have connected to the modem, the mic isnt working, although I can hear it, barely and scratchy on the other end, inaudible, but can hear the other phone fine. I have tried everything to no avail, I have an onboard sound card and everything is checked. I can play and record through the modem (for greetings) fine, but can't talk on the phone with the mic, can hear the other caller, but I cant talk. Any help is appreciated, Delta

Yeah, I have a feeling its the modem, although it does record through the modem for greeting etc, Thanks! Most speakerphone capable voice modems require mics that dont need a power source to work - have you tried using a different type of microphone? The sort you need is the type that generates tiny pulses of electricity in time with the sound waves (as opposed to the sort that vary resistance or capacitance in time with the sound waves). If you check with the modem maker, they should be able to advise a suitable mic.

It makes calls perfectly but I can't hear anything and they can't hear me too.
If there is any update please send me to rentelweb_2@hotmail.com or djreficul@yahoo.com if is over 10 Mbs. I think it is possible that you have the software in english. It doesn't matter. I need to know if my modem has voice capabilities but in www.lucent.com I didn't find anything about my modem. We are developing a software to call people and testing it with this modem.
Thank for help us. Sorry about my english.

If the modem came with a Dell computer it is typically a voice modem, if it didn't come from Dell it is typically not a voice modem.
Did the modem and the Winphone come with a Dell computer?

Ok, now I understand why my modem didn't work as I thought. It wasn't bought with a Dell computer. So I think it is not a voice modem.
Thank you.

I'm using Version 2.18 which came with my 3COM US Robotics 56K proffesional message Modem (back in 2000 I think).
Everything else works, just the fax refuses to install the capture fax printer(even if I do it manually).
Can I have the update please?

No, there is not an update for that version. That version is XP compatible though. Have you updated your modem drivers to XP drivers?
Any updates allowing v.2.16 on SF-1165IV R9A to play nice with either WXP or W2K will be much appreciated; currently running W98SE and finally contemplating an upgrade. Send to jsknight@gmail.com.
We do offer free XP compatible updates for the Dell versions of PhoneTools and Classic PhoneTools. Please email as at support@bvrpusa.com with Dell XP Compatible version in the subject line or reply to this post with your email address.

Kind of hard to follow the threads around here; an occasional quote might be appropriate. I assume you were responding to my original post with the above. My original was as follows:
"Any updates allowing v.2.16 on SF-1165IV R9A to play nice with either WXP or W2K will be much appreciated; currently running W98SE and finally contemplating an upgrade. Send to jsknight@gmail.com."
Haven't been able to find any XP drivers at the Gateway site. Sounds like this'll require some surfing in backwaters. Should anything else be required?
Thx,

All of a sudden, my classic phone tools will not fax out. It says "processing" and then freezes in place, never to unfreeze. I have version 4.0 of the classic phone tools. I would not mind purchasing the upgrade if it would really work. I have been using it for six months with no problems at all. I have tried capturing from the document and I have tried going into the program to attach a file. Same result each time. Please help. Need the patch. Linda

I can't seem to use MPT 4.0--having problems with installation. However, my Dell has Phonetools as an original install. So I take it I can use that?
I'm running XP, SP2, with all current updates. Not at home, so not sure of the version of PhoneTools I have, but it's a Dell Dimension 4400 purchased in '01.
Can you send the patch to sward110@cox.net--perhaps I'll be able to use this PhoneTools instead of the MPT.
This is so frustrating--any help is appreciated.

To assist in answering your question in a timely manner, it is helpful to post the following information when you ask a question:
1. What version of our software are you using? This can typically be found by clicking Menu(s), Help, About <Product>.
2. What modem/phone are you using? What modem are you using?
- In Windows XP/2000: This can be found by clicking Start, Control Panel, Phone and Modem Options, Modems tab. Your modem name will be listed here.
- In Windows 98/Me: This can be found by clicking Start, Settings, Control Panel, Modems. Your modem name will be listed here.
3. What operating system are you using? E.g., Windows XP SP1, Windows 98 SE. This can normally be found by right-clicking 'My Computer' and left-clicking properties and it will be listed under the System section on the General tab.
4. Details of the issue including any error messages, e.g, "When I try to install it keeps stating 'Please insert disk 1'."
5. Scenarios under which the issue occurs, e.g., "I can normally send faxes, but cannot to the 310 area code."
6. How did you receive the software? E.g., received with a Dell A920 printer, received with a Dell Dimension 8400, received with a US Robotics Fax Win INT modem, purchased at www.bvrpusa.com, purchased a box at Fry's, etc...
7. Your e-mail address is also helpful should we need to send you a file or download link.

I've never heard of a Systemax PC, we,ve never shipped with that type of PC. What kind of modem do you have, maybe the program came with the modem?
The modem is listed as a Generic HCF 56K Data Fax Modem. The Systemax PC came with the modem and with a CD marked WinPhone (in various languages) and PhoneTools in English and German 2000 BVRP software.
I can't believe you've never heard of Systemax. See www.systemax.com (which is a USA website). In the UK they are sold through Misco (www.misco.co.uk).
I can send you a photo of the disk I have if you like ?

On my Dell 4100, I upgraded from WinMe to XP SP2
Installed modem is the Conexant HCF V.90 56K RTAD, Speakerphone
The aboutn.ini on the BVRP install disc says ProductVersion=2.17a
My modem hasn't been working lately, however. Modem Test says there is not a dialtone. I've tried the modem driver upgrade at Dell and the Generic Driver at the Conexant site. Still no dialtone.
I'm thinking that maybe a power spike or lightning strike may have damaged the modem. So, I'm in the process of finding a modem from your Compatable Modems list linked from this page (http://www.bvrp.com/eng/products/phonetoolsexpert/).
I'm wanting to restore the full function I once enjoyed with Phonetools. Will a data/fax/voice modem from the list do this? Reason I'm asking is my Conexant is billed as a "speakerphone" modem. I'm ignorant of what that means.
Finally, I'd like the XP upgrade for Phonetools.
And, if you could shine any light on the lack of modem dialtone, I'd appreciate it.
Regards,
Joe

The Dell Version is only going work with modems that Dell ships.
To get all of the feauters you would need a voice capable modem, if it isn ot a Dell modem though you would need to purchase Classic Phonetools to get a version that will work with it.

Lately de modem is not working properly anymore (disconnecting suddenly and system failures, as sometimes rebooting while trying to connect). For some reason installing this software again is not possible , also in that case system failures and rebooting during the installation procedure. Do you have a more suitabele update for this software? Please send to fnas@wanadoo.nl

I think you put your finger on it with "system failure". The faults you described under Windows XP will not be caused by the version of PhoneTools you have. Think about it, if it was once working fine and it's not now, then something else must be the culprit. One of several common causes for spontaneous rebooting is a failing PSU or power supply. Does the rebooting happen more often at certain temperatures or power loadings (such as when using the DVD/CD Burner - assuming it has one)?
Running a PC with a PSU thats on the way out can lead to further hardware failures so my suggestion would be to get it looked at by a professional ASAP and they can test the hardware to diagnose the cause of the fault.

Hello,
A few years ago, I bought a Dell PC Dimension 4100 with Windows ME from Dell Canada. It camed with a french version of WinPhone "Logiciel Multimedia" version 2.17a installed. I have upgraded to Windows XP Pro SP2. When I try to send faxes, they seem to stick in the "faxes to be sent" folder. Also, in the WinPhone about window, the modem model is "3Com 56K Voice PCI PnP" instead of "Dell Data Fax Modem". I read in this forum page that other users had similar problems and that you were offering free XP compatible updates. Would they work for my version of WinPhone as well ? If so, could you send me such an update at gilles_guenette@hotmail.com ?
Thank you.

All we have access to is the English version.
you would also need to get your modem drivers updated to XP driver. The Dell Data/fax driver is a generic driver and won't work with our program generally.
