Hi,
We have distinctive ring on our home telephone line. I'd like to set up clasic phone tools to ignore calls to primary number and answer second ring (dbl ring) as a fax (or as a bonus, fax+data).
Is this possible?
I have Classic Phone tools OEM from US Robotics. I have also installed mobile phone tools to interact with my Motorola cell phone.
Thanks. Kent

Thanks for the file. But my question still remains, I guess.
I want phonetools to ignore calls to the main number. (I guess this would be "manual answer" on the "default ring" using phonetools terminology.) I want "fax" answer on the first distinctive ring.
I can select "fax" for distinctive ring 1, no problem. However, to get "manual answer" on the "default" ring, I guess I need to turn "receive is active" off??
Could you pls advise?
Thanks, Kent

I have new information.
First, the "distinctive ring" support must be turned on in the USR modem. (ClassicPhoneTools came with my USR performance pro V32 modem w/ integrated controller.)
Using hyperterminal, I monitored both distinctive rings be reported as "RING" until I enabled distinctive ring (S42=1&w). Afterwords, the main number (2 on 4 off) was reported as "RING A", and the double ring as "RING B".
Unfortunately, I'm still unable to phonetools to answer the double ring & leave the single ring for manual answer.
Could you advise?

I would like the same information please. I have a Dell 4550 that came with classic phone tools. I had a dial up connection with 2 lines 1 for the home phone the other for computer and phone tools had no problems. I now have to share the home line with the fax and when the home line is dialed the fax picks up. When the fax number is dialed the fax picks up.
I have version 4.16. Modem Conexant HSF V 92 56K RTad (1/1)
Thanks

If your modem is reporting the rings as Ring A and Ring B we will not be able to set up the distinctive ringing. our program needs the cadence of the rings to be reported in order for us to recognize them.

I would also like this information. The cadence that is already in the config file doesn't match mine. (the ring is: ring, ring) Is there any way to find out what the cadence is so it can be configured to answer the distinctive ring line?
registered now...I posted the above question as guest. It would be pretty difficult to find me then!

I recvd BVRP Classic Phone Tools in a USR External USB 56K Modem (USR265633A) running from XP.
I can send and recv faxes, the primary purpose, but I cannot tell the program to "Not Answer" on normal ring and "Answer ONLY" on distinctive ring.
I cannot find the AT command for the modem for disitinctive ring settings.
Previous posts indicate a file & instructions, please forward to me.

I have just found this thread and have the same basic problem. Can you either send me the file/notes, or have them posted on your site somewhere so subsequent readers can just follow a link?
thanks.

This seems rather silly. I see there are many people asking the same question?? I have a USR internal 56K modem and Phone tools. I only want the fax to answer on distinctive ring and not pick up the phone on a normal ring pattern. I guess you have to send me the file as you have done for the last bunch of people that have posted the same question.
Why can't you just post the info on the required file here and where to download it so that anyone in the future might not have to wait for someone to answer this question?

I have not received any file to resolve the distinctive ring and the program answering on the main line ring. I want to disable main line ring and answer on distinctive ring only. Please send me the file to <edit out>

I am having the same issue. I have Phonetools version 2.22 from US Robotics running in Windows XP. I have a USR 5660 56k Softmodem. We have distinctive ring service on our phone. I want Phonetools to ignore the default ring so my answering machine can pick up, but I want it to answer distinctive ring 1 as a fax. There is not an option in the program to change the answer mode for the default ring to manual. is there any way to have it ignore the default ring?

I have a Conexant D850 56K V.9x DFVc modem.
Driver Version: 7.6.0.50, 1/7/2004
This modem does not appear to have any settings for Distinctive Rings.
Classic Phone Tools does not recognize any Distinctive Ring Properties.
How can I enable Distinctive Rings on this modem?

Go to program files; phone tools and edit in notepad rings.inf. Change the order of the rings in list 0-2 from the default (which is unchangable in gui) basically whatever ringer you want to be default, label it "0" and number the rest accordingly. turn the other two in the GUI to "manual" and it should work. I tested and mine worked fine. hope this helps others!
